So, I'm sure everyone saw John Murtha, ex-marine, representative to the US congress, democrat, supposed hawk, make a call for redeployment of US troops from Iraq. This shocked the newspapers at least, and his democratic bretheren couldn't quite back him up...

"I don't support immediate withdrawal," came the statement from Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
"Mr. Murtha speaks for himself." is the best House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. could come up with.
Everybodys fav, Norm Dicks, walked away when reporters tried to talk to him about it.
Today, the republicans, who made the most of Murtha's comments by saying stuff like, "Terrorists have brought the battlefield to the halls of Congress..." , upped the ante further,
calling for a vote on immediate withdrawal...forcing dems to actually come out on one side or the other of the question.
NPR had the democrats complaining that this was a ploy to get them on the record calling for an immediate withdrawal...oh godforbid! dont make us actual come out against the war, that would be too much....we just want to prance around calling the republicans liars and saying we were misled by intelligence and we wouldnt have voted for the war if only, if, if...
Thanks heavens the democrats were saved from embarrasement by their "leader" pelosi, who (according to the NYT) instructed Democrats to join Republicans in voting against an immediate withdrawal. whew! can we get back to talking about false intelligence already!? jeez! and will somebody tranquilize Murtha or something. man!
